Dallam students perform at international streetband festival

Over the weekend, Jack Smith and Jemima Barraclough (Year 8) had the incredible opportunity to perform with Baybeat, a community streetband from More Music in Morecambe.

Jack and Jemima have been part of Baybeat for the past three years, and this summer they were invited to take part in a three-day streetband festival for Bradford2025 City of Culture. The festival brought together 15 bands from across the UK, USA, Australia, Germany, France and beyond – a true celebration of global music and culture.

Across the weekend Jack and Jemima:

  • Attended two rehearsals with international musicians
  • Performed six gigs around the city
  • Took part in a high-energy bandslam competition
  • Played in a mass streetband of 300 musicians in the city centre
  • Joined a Sunday workshop in Afro-Brazilian drumming

This was an unforgettable experience that not only developed Jack and Jemima’s confidence and performance skills but also broadened their musical education through collaboration with musicians from around the world.

At Dallam we say: Belong here. Learn here. Thrive here. This experience captures this perfectly – belonging to a community of musicians, learning through international collaboration, and thriving on stage in front of new audiences.
